Middle Names

When we name our pets, we put a lot of thought into it. Everyone has a first and middle name. Usually, the middle name is what they were called when we adopted them. Axle is Axle Grease since he is the official garage dog. As for Paisley, that was her name when we adopted her, so we added Ann as her middle name. Vlad has a middle name, but we rarely use it. He was Kermit when we adopted him, so Vlad Kermit does not work when he is in trouble. It is just VLAD!!. Luna's name was Dance when we adopted her. We later found out why she was Dance, she would do a little dance when we brought her food.

When we brought Luca and Moxi home, they were so little that we didn't come up with a middle name for them until recently. Moxi is the rowdy one and usually starts trouble. He is the one who knocks things over and goes places where he should not be. Luca always follows along, but he is rarely the instigator. One day, Moxi was in Allison's room and bit the head off a stuffed bat. So Moxi now has a middle name, Ozzy. That left Luca without a middle name. Luca is a sweetheart and rarely starts trouble, so choosing a middle name was tough. He has a small nick in one of his ears, so I suggested using Nick, or Nicholas, as his middle name. Luca Nick, or Nicholas, just did not flow naturally. One of our favorite TV shows, which we constantly quote, is King of Queens, which we call "Doug and Carrie." There was one episode where Doug said that D'Robertas is a cool name. So I pitched the idea of calling Luca "Luca D'Robertas." That flowed better, but the rest of the family did not care for it. Then I said, 'What about Luca D'Marco, you know, for the 'mark' on his ear. Everyone liked that. So Luca now has a middle name: Luca D'Marco.

I'm not sure why giving our pets a middle name is so important, maybe because they are family too.
