Blessed With My Job

Recently, I was in a conference room just after a high-level meeting had finished. Almost everyone left. I was picking up power strips and straightening chairs. A black guy about my age was packing away his laptop. I asked how the meeting went, was a lot accomplished? He said it went well. He went on to say that some test pilots were involved, including an F-15 pilot. He said that there are plans for some really interesting tests. I smiled and said, “We sure work in a cool business, don’t we?” He smiled back and said, “At our age, we are fortunate to be a part of big things like this. Sometimes when I get in my car to come to work, I think that it is probably time to retire, but then I think about what I get to do today. It brings out the young boy in me who looked at the stars and thought, ‘How high can we go to explore? The moon and beyond? Then all is right in the world as I get into traffic on my way to work. I look at cars next to me and wonder if the grind they are going to as exciting as my job”.

I thought he expressed exactly what I feel each morning as I get in my Tahoe to drive to work.

I am blessed.
