Mother's Day 2025

Last night I called Mom to wish her Happy Mother's Day. We talked a lot about when my brothers and I were young, reminiscing about simpler times.

Mom told me about the time we were living in Pasadena, TX, when she had finished ironing a shirt. She went to hang it up, and I was playing near the ironing board with my Matchbox cars. She told me to stay away from the ironing board, which gave me the idea to go closer to it. I bumped it, and the iron fell off, hitting me in the head. There was blood everywhere, and I was taken to the emergency room (my very first trip to the emergency room!) I had a little cut, not big enough for stitches, and everything else looked fine. I was 4 years old, but I clearly recall when this happened.

I guess it was a good thing I was hit in the head; I could have been hurt.

We also talked about other adventures. I mentioned the time when we were stranded in Mazatlan, Mexico. The transmission in our Ford Station Wagon was bad and was being rebuilt at the Ford dealer. We had a hotel across the street from the beach. One day, I brought a hermit crab back to the hotel and said this was my new pet, Pedro. Pedro got out of his box to explore the hotel room and died. I looked everywhere for Pedro. It was when the room started to stink that everyone else helped me look for Pedro. We finally found him under one of the beds. Mom said she does not remember the Pedro incident. I said that it must not have been too bad if she did not recall that part of our adventure.

Mom and Dad gave us three boys a great life with lots of adventures. I am thankful for each moment.
