Rivalries

In 1996, I was editing with a Producer from CMT (Country Music Television) on a Ballet that was going to air on NBC. Craig is a very talented video Director/Producer, but he is what I call an 'audio-first' guy. In the video production world, there are two camps, and most everyone has a solid footing in one or the other camp: Audio or Video. I am solid in the Video camp. Craig is solid in the Audio camp, even though he directs multi-camera productions.

During the long edit session, which went late into the night, I got up to take a break. I asked Craig if he wanted any coffee. He said he did. The edit suite we were working in had a Yamaha audio board on the left side of the U-shaped console, and the video switcher in the middle. I brought Craig's coffee in and put it in the middle of the audio mixer. He laughed and knew exactly why I did that. It showed that I put less priority on audio. A few hours later, he brought me a coffee and set it in the middle of the Grass Valley Video switcher in retaliation for what I did earlier.

Funny how these rivalries are in different industries.
