KAUM

Today, April 19, 2026, is the birthday of one of my oldest and best friends. He would have been 58 years old. Dr. Charles Cowles, or as I knew him, Eugene, was a one-of-a-kind guy. He died in December 2020.

I thought of when we filmed a radio show in 1985 at KAUM in Houston. It was a Sunday evening call-in talk show called the John Matthews Show. We had two Beta-Cam cameras to film the show because our boss, Phil Arms, was the guest that night. We finished breaking down and packing up the broadcast equipment around midnight. Eugene went home, and I drove to our building and unloaded the gear before heading home. Later, we edited the show to air on Phil Arm's TV show. I am not sure why I thought of that particular time, however.

What makes me feel old is thinking of close friends who are now gone. I have too many of those now. I can only think of the good times we had.
