I had a huge breakthrough, which was an answer to prayer.

Jennifer's car suddenly had several issues, and she couldn't drive it. I parked it in the daily-driver side of the garage so I could figure out the root of the problem. The first sign was that we were getting a 'hood open' indication. Then the shifter was locked into park, the AC controller had no power, and the rear camera also had no power. My first thought was the BCM (Body Control Module) had gone bad. I did a deep scan, which confirmed what I already knew wasn't working.

I found a place online where I could buy a new BCM for $200, and if I sent them my VIN, they would program it to our car. When I installed the new BCM, a couple of new codes showed up, but I cleared them. In fact, I expected those and knew I had to clear them with the scanner. But the original issue was still there. I was out of ideas now that a replacement BCM did not fix the issues.

During this time, I searched car forums for anyone who had posted these particular issues, but I didn't find anything. I ordered a new hood latch, thinking it might be the cause since it was the first issue we saw. Maybe that sensor was throwing everything else off.

Yesterday, Jennifer and Allison went out to run some errands using Will's car. I prayed for guidance on how to solve the issues in Jennifer's car. I did another search on the Internet and came across a 2011 thread where someone described the exact issue we were having. He took his car to the dealer, and they had it fixed the next day. He ended up paying the dealer $1,500 to fix his car. Looking at his invoice, he saw the only part they replaced was a 15-amp fuse buried under the dash for HVAC.

I went out to the garage, climbed under the dash, took apart all the lower sections on the passenger side, and found the hidden fuse panel. I pulled the tiny HVAC fuse (which was a huge pain to get to) and saw that it was blown. I installed a new fuse, and everything came back to life! Apparently, everything that wasn't working was on the HVAC circuit. When the fuse blew, it knocked out all those systems.

I put the car back together. I had taken most everything off the front end to find the issue, including checking for rodent damage to the wiring. We did a check ride, filled the tank, and everything worked perfectly. I only spent $200 on the BCM, which we now have as a spare, and we'll cancel the order for the hood latch. I figure if I am out $200, that is a lot better than the $1,500 I could have spent taking the car somewhere.

Jennifer is so happy to have her car back!!
